A Winning Weekend

Since I last posted I've played a significant amount of poker, believe it or not. The FTOPS series was going on, so I decided to put in some hours. While I did have a couple top 35 finishes, I failed to make any real noise in the FTOPS event. I did have a very successful weekend in the other simultaneously running tournaments this weekend. Namely, I outright won the morning edition of the $100 rebuy tournament on Pokerstars this past Saturday after beating 2009 WSOP main event 15th place finiRead More...

Vegas, Tuscaloosa, Lifetime WPT Results

In the two weeks since I've last posted there hasn't been too much going on. I spent the last weekend of January out in Las Vegas celebrating Justin Young's 30th birthday and then taking part in a surprise party for Eric Baldwin for his 2009 Cardplayer Player of the Year victory. On the Friday night Adam Geyer and I showed up and informed basebaldy that we flew in last minute just to celebrate Justin's birthday. Adam and I were 7th and 8th wheels as we joined Eric, Cody Slaubaugh, Justin and Read More...

Out of WPT Biloxi

I was down in Biloxi this weekend for the WPT event there. I drew a table with Carlos Mortensen, Nick Shulman and a kid named Chase Steely. There was another good young player that I don't know by name, too. Things went poorly as I busted as time expired in the second level. Level 1 went ok. I quickly slipped to like 27000 after I valuetowned myself in a pot against a guy with KQhh vs his AQ on QJJxx. I won a couple small pots to climb back to 30800 to finish the level above the starting stacRead More...

2010 So Far

I guess this is my first blog entry of 2010. I brought in the New Year with some friends at a really cool bar called Rogue Tavern on Birmingham's north side. A few days later I headed out to San Diego with Adam Geyer to hang out for a few days. I really fell in love with that city despite only getting to see the Pacific Beach area. I could see myself living in SD at some point in my life.

On January 6 we drove two hours up to Pasadena and got settled at our hotel in nearby Glendale forRead More...

2009: A Year to Remember. A Year in Review. (Very Long)

I've been back in Birmingham the last couple of weeks. It's been a really nice time as I've gotten to spend some time with my family and friends. Christmas was excellent for my family and me, and I hope it was great for all you guys too. The past 3 years I've recapped my year in a blog post, so I figured I'd continue the trend and recap 2009 below:

I brought in 2009 in New Orleans, Louisiana with my poker buds Adam Geyer and Mike Katz. Alabama played in the Sugar Bowl on January 2 vs UtRead More...

Out of $15k WPT Five Diamond

Pretty tough day. I battled uphill the whole time. I quickly got down to around 55,000 at the end of the first level. I climbed back to like 65,000 at the end of level 2, and 80k at the end of level 3 before getting moved to a new table and taking 60k into the final level. In the 30 minutes I was still in the tournament in the final level I doubled up Amnon Filippi for his 11bb in a spot where I opened AJo from MP with the BB out of his seat, and somehow AF actually had AQo. Then I got Read More...

I'm on to day 2 of the $15,000 WPT Five Diamond with 84,075 in chips. The average is in the neighborhood of 80k.

The day was just kind of whatever. I was at a table with John Monnette, Kathy Liebert, Tyler "tnetter" Netters, Cornell Cimpan, Steven Fung, Justin Young and Dani "ansky" Stern (whom I thought played spectacularly). I took what was given to me and didn't really play too big of a pot all day.

There was this guy in the 2 seat who literally put money in the pot lessRead More...

This has been maybe my longest sabbatical from blogging in the 4 years I've been doing it. Since I last posted I've been busy with school and some traveling. My sister Carly and I went to Auburn and watched Bama escape with a win, and last weekend some friends and I headed over to neutral Atlanta for the SEC Championship. A friend and I tipped a security guard $100 to get into the stadium ;) It was easily the most exciting sporting event I've ever attended as Bama cruised to a victory. As a rRead More...

FTOPS $1k recap with hand histories (Very Long)

As I said in my last entry, I wanted to share some hands from my two deep FTOPS runs. This entry will include hands from the $1k FTOPS event that I finished 4th in. I'll try to follow early next week with some hands from the $2500 FTOPS. Again, I'm excited to contribute some poker content as I know y'all are tired of reading about my otherwise uneventful life.

I'm not sure if the links are going to transfer to my blog feed on Cardplayer, so if you want to avoid having to copy and Read More...

It was a work infested weekend. I decided to sort of detox this weekend and just stick around Tuscaloosa and play the FTOPS series all weekend. Alabama football was 90 miles west in Starkville, Mississippi playing Mississippi State, but I decided against going. Last week Bama clinched and SEC Championship birth by winning the west, and this week they didn't stumble as they routed MSU in hostile Starkville 31-3.

Friday night I played a full slate.

I was leaving class on Monday night headed to the gym when my buddy Mike Katz called me. We were talking for a bit, and then he asked if I was playing the FTOPS $1k event. I didn't even realize that the event was taking place. I continued on to the gym, got home and then remembered having spoken with Mike. I joined the tournament 10 minutes or so late despite having a paper that I really needed to write for my Entrepreneurship class. 9 hours later I finished 4th of the 1366 entrants forRead More...

Halloween, Monday Night Football, Bama vs LSU

I've been having some fun since I last posted. I spent Halloween weekend in Birmingham. Saturday my aunt got married in my hometown of Irondale, AL. We had a good time at the wedding but even more fun at the reception at a nearby hotel afterwards. That night I decided to dress as a meth head Andre Agassi for Halloween. I was really hurting for an idea when my mom threw the idea out there late Friday night. I went to a house party with some friends and later we hit Birmingham's popular LaRead More...

The Obligatory Blog Entry

Hi everyone. It's been some 19 days since I last blogged. I'm trying to remember what all has been going on since I last posted.

Let me start by sharing this really fun link of a charity project my Dad is doing.
Going to Austin, TX

It's fall break at The University of Alabama. I'm in the terminal in Birmingham headed to Austin, Texas to hang out with my buddy Adam Geyer. Technically fall break is only Thursday and Friday, but I've got this cool ass marketing teacher who decided to give us today off as well. We'll definitely go to the Texas vs Colorado football game on Saturday night, but aside from that we have no real plans. I hope to eat some of Austin's great food and throw down about 100 Shiners before the weekend iRead More...

7 Weeks of School Complete, Flying to Williamsburg

It's early Friday morning, and as I write this I'm one of the few people in the Birmingham airport. I'm en route to Williamsburg, VA where my mom currently lives. I'll fly into this cool town nearby called Newport News. I'm really looking forward to seeing my Mom as it's been some 2 months or so since I last got to see her.

Since my last update I attended the Alabama vs Arkansas game in Tuscaloosa. Bama looked fantastic, won 35-7, and improved to 4-0. In the last 6 years or so, I've onlyRead More...

6 Weeks of School Complete, WCOOP $10k HORSE, Fantasy

Earlier tonight I completed the classes that wrapped up six weeks of classes. The semester is flying by nicely thanks in large part to football season being here. I had my first two tests this week. I have no idea how I did. A lot of these upper level classes unfortunately require a lot of textbook reading in order to be really successful. I've determined that it's not important enough to me to read chapter after chapter in a textbook in order to excel in these classes, so we'll see how thingRead More...

Hi all. Thanks for reading. I know I'm not updating much. Since I last posted I've enjoyed two football weekends. I was over in Atlanta for Bama vs Virginia Tech. Bama won that one in a very exciting game, 34-24. This past weekend we beat a scrappy Florida International team 40-14.

School is whatever right now. I'm in the middle of the fifth week and have yet to have any major assignments or tests. I have had a lot of group work, so I'm staying busy enough. I only have classes TueRead More...

Three Weeks of School Complete, Bama vs VT this Weekend

I blinked and all of a sudden three weeks of school are complete. Things are going ok. The classes are bearable. All of these Management classes require a bunch of group work, so I've joined teams in all 5 of my classes. Usually this group work is pretty annoying, but what can you do? It'll be cool to meet some new people.

Last weekend in North Dakota for Cody and Renee's wedding was awesome. ND was a really peaceful place that kind of reminded me of Alabama.
Out of WPT Legends, Back in Tuscaloosa

Well, my trip to Los Angeles was a quick one. My showing, or lack of, in the $10,000 WPT event was pretty disappointing. I failed to get anything going at all. It is amazing to me how many times I've busted day 1's in WPTs.

I drew a table that I liked, recognizing only Prince Gaspard and Steve O'Dwyer to my right and then Arizonan Kevin O'Donnell across the table. Early on I slipped to 25500 from the 30,000 stack in a hand that I really don't like. I opened to 300 UTG with AQss got calRead More...
