Well, my trip to Los Angeles was a quick one. My showing, or lack of, in the $10,000 WPT event was pretty disappointing. I failed to get anything going at all. It is amazing to me how many times I've busted day 1's in WPTs.

I drew a table that I liked, recognizing only Prince Gaspard and Steve O'Dwyer to my right and then Arizonan Kevin O'Donnell across the table. Early on I slipped to 25500 from the 30,000 stack in a hand that I really don't like. I opened to 300 UTG with AQss got called in two spots, and then a guy raised kinda small to 1200. I called, although I think it's pretty marginal. O'Donnell called. Flop AK9 two diamonds. I checked, Kevin checked, and guy thought and bet 3000. As weak as it is, I think I need to go ahead and let it go, especially given how much I liked this table. Anyway, I called and Kevin thought and folded. Turn offsuit 8. I checked and guy quickbet 8500. My hand went into the muck.

In the last hand of the level, I'd get some back though. An older gentleman opened to 500 at 50/100 from the HJ and I woke up with two red Aces in the BB and raised to 1600. He called. Flop gross JT5r. I decided to bet just 2000 and he called. Turn gross 9. I checked and guy bet 3000. I really don't like raising this turn, especially given that I have just 18000 behind. I called. River 4. I checked and guy instantly checked and turned over two queens. Maybe I can block lead like 4500 into this guy on the end to try to get more value out of the hand, but Kings and Queens are the only two hands I beat against him I think.

As I write this I'm sitting in a hotel room at Commerce Casino in Los Angeles with my boy Jon Little.  We'll be playing the $10,000 WPT Legends of Poker  5 miles down the road at The Bicycle Casino in a little over an hour.

Last night Justin Young, Eric Baldwin and one of Justin's friends headed downtown to Dodger Stadium to watch the Cubs/Dodgers game. We were treated to a pretty damn good game with the Dodgers prevailing 2-1. Both pitchers Randy Wolf and Randy Wells both pitched spectacularly. We found some pretty good seats on StubHub that were like 8 rows up from the field on the first base side. We got there and learned that our seats were in some section that also had an all you can eat buffet and a private bar and restrooms, so we took full advantage. Unfortunately I lost the $900 flip.

Jon and I just got a workout in at the nearby Gold's gym. Time to go win a WPT.

Since I last posted I played the weekend's worth of FTOPS. I found a small cash in the $120 knockout tournament but aside from that it was a disappointing weekend with only a couple of small cashes. While we're talking poker, a big congrats is in order for my bud Cody Slaubaugh for destroying the FTOPS with a 2nd place finish in an event on Friday and then an impressive 10th place finish in the $2500 FTOPS event. Also congrats to Eric Baldwin for finishing 3rd in a $1k event in Los Angeles today to retake the top spot in Cardplayer's Player of the Year race. Helluva year for Eric so far and we're only 2/3 of the way through.

Friday night my sister Carly and I headed over to Atlanta to check out the Incubus concert at this cool venue called the Verizon Wireless ampitheater in the ritzy suburb of Alpharetta. Both of us are really big fans and we had a great time. We stayed at a Hyatt Place hotel very close to the venue. This place was pretty bad ass and was unbelievably affordable at just $69 for the night.

Aside from that, I've continued to watch a bunch of movies from Netflix. I "watched instantly" on the website a couple including this foreign film called JCVD which was superb. The other one was a pretty touching documentary called "Dear Zachary" that is worth checking out. The movies I received in the mail were Role Models, Gran Torino, and Poolhall Junkies. I loved Gran Torino and thought Poolhall Junkies was a good watch, but I wished I had the 90 minutes of my life back after wasting it on the unfunny Role Models.
